Abstract  Abstract

A method of carrying out a random access procedure through a radio interface (106) served by a radio base station (104, 140), the method comprising the steps of: - selecting (204) a time interval of access for the transmission of an access burst (112) through the radio interface; and - establish (206) an access bandwidth (BWRACH) for the transmission of the access burst; wherein an available transmission bandwidth supported by the radio base station for uplink transmissions is set to a predefined maximum transmission bandwidth in accordance with a communication standard or a portion thereof, in which the Access bandwidth is set smaller than said available transmission bandwidth; characterized in that the access bandwidth is selected according to an access frequency band that has the access bandwidth within the available transmission bandwidth, and because the access frequency band is selected according to a frequency hopping pattern associated with the radio interface.
