Abstract
The present invention is directed to a technique for executing a random access procedure over an air interface 106 in a mobile terminal 102. A method embodiment of a random access procedure as executed in a mobile terminal includes selecting an access time slot for transmission of an access burst 112 over an air interface; Setting an access bandwidth for transmission of an access burst, the access bandwidth being set to be less than the available transmission bandwidth associated with the air interface.
