Abstract
1. A method for performing a random access procedure over a radio interface (106), comprising the steps of! selecting (204) an access time slot for transmitting an access packet (112) over the air interface; and! setting (206) an access bandwidth (BWRACH) for transmitting an access packet; ! wherein the access bandwidth is set to the smaller available system transmission bandwidth for uplink transmissions associated with the radio interface. ! 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving information regarding at least one of the following: system transmission available bandwidth, access bandwidth, and allocation of an access frequency band having access bandwidth. ! 3. The method according to claim 1 or 2, in which the access bandwidth is set according to the minimum access bandwidth. ! 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the access time slot is selected from a periodic arrangement of access time slots associated with the radio interface. ! 5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising selecting an access frequency band having an access bandwidth within the available transmission bandwidth of the system. ! 6. The method according to claim 5, in which the access frequency band is selected according to the frequency multiplexing scheme associated with the radio interface. ! 7. The method according to claim 6, in which the access frequency band is selected according to the frequency hopping pattern associated with the radio interface. ! 8. The method according to any one of claims 5 to 7, comprising the step of transmitting two or more access packets in different access frequency bands. ! 9. Method �
