Abstract
A method of encoding video data, the method comprising: determining (162; 208) a context for entropy coding of a bin of a value indicative of a position of the last significant coefficient of a block of video data using a function of an index of the bin, and the coding (164; 210) of the bin using the given context; characterized by: the use of the function to produce a context index for the context by shifting the bin index to the right by a value k and adding the value shifted to the right to a shift value, in which the offset value is determined according to the formula: displacement> = 3 * n + ((n + 1) >> 2), where the value of k is determined according to the formula: k> = (n + 3) >> 2 where the value of n is determined according to the formula: n> = (log2 (block_size) -2), and where the block_size value comprises a value indicative of the block size of the transformation unit.
