Abstract  Abstract

A User Equipment, UE, (102), with Machine Type Communication, MTC, to operate in accordance with a coverage improvement mode, CE, comprising the equipment UE (102), hardware processing circuits configured for: the determination of an EC category for the UE (102), based, at least in part, on the loss of route between the UE (102) and an Evolved Node-B node, eNB (104); and the transmission, in frequency resources of a physical random access channel, PRACH, of a PRACH preamble in accordance with an uplink repeat access number, wherein a temporary random access radio network identifier is calculated , RA-RNTI, for the PRACH preamble transmission as 1 + tid + 10 * fid + c * MTCid, where tid is the index of the first sub-frame of the PRACH preamble, fid is the PRACH index within said sub-frame, c is a constant and MTCid is 0 or 1 depending on whether or not the UE is in EC mode; where the uplink access repetition number is based, at least in part, on the CE category for the UE (102).
