Abstract  Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for processing data blocks during soft handover. The apparatus of the present invention may be a wireless communication system comprising at least two enhanced uplink soft handover (EU-SHO) Node-Bs and a Radio Network Controller (RNC). Each Node-B decodes the received data block and forwards the decoded data block to a radio network controller (RNC). When the radio network controller (RNC) receives at least one copy of the successfully decoded data block, the radio network controller (RNC) processes the copy of the successfully decoded data block to support sequential delivery to higher protocol layers. Use the reorder feature entity to do this. If the radio network controller (RNC) receives more than one copy of the successfully decoded data block, the radio network controller (RNC) discards the extra successfully decoded data block copies. The radio network controller (RNC) is either a serving-wireless network controller (S-RNC) or a control-wireless network controller (C-RNC). Each Node-B includes a medium access control (MAC) that handles enhanced uplink dedicated channel (EU-DCH) functionality.
