FIELD: information technology.SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of encoding a video data unit. The method includes a step of dividing a video data transform unit into a plurality of transform coefficient sub-sets. Further the method includes determining for a sub-set of the plurality of transform coefficient sub-sets whether or not to generate a syntax element which indicates whether or not the sub-set includes any non-zero coefficients.EFFECT: reducing the amount of data used to present coefficients which enable video data processing.52 cl 8 dwg
