Abstract  Abstract

for a wideband signal in response generating a sense weighting a sense weighting device signal comprising a signal pre-emphasis filter a synthesis filter calculator and a sense weighting filter. the signal preemphasis filter enhances the high frequency component of the broadband signal thereby generating a pre-emphasis signal. the signal preemphasis form of filter transfer function P (z) is FORMULA ? z-1 wherein ? is value is a weighting factor between 1 and 0. The synthesis filter calculator responds to the emphasis signal for generating the synthesis filter coefficients. Finally the sense weighting filter relative to the synthesis filter coefficients for filtering the pre-emphasis signal thereby generating sense weighting for the signal. in the form of a transfer function of the a sense weighting filter W (z) = A (z/ ?1)/(? 2z-1) wherein 0< more than ?2 less than ?1 less than or equal to 1 and ?1 ?2 is a weighting control value the transfer function denominator is fixed thereby performing weighting to the wideband signal in a formant region can be substantially inclined with one spectrum of the wideband signal.

A perceptual weighting device for producing a perceptually weighted signal in response to a wideband signal comprises a signal preemphasis filter a synthesis filter claculator and a perceptual weighting filter. The signal preemphasis filter enhances high frequency content of the wideband signal to thereby produce a preemphasised signal. The signal preemphasis filter has a transfer function of the form: P(z)=1 - mu z<-1> wherein mu is a preemphasis factor having a value located between 0 and 1. The synthesis filter calculator is responsive to the preemphasised signal for producing synthesis filter coefficients. Finally the perceptual weighting filter processes the preemphasised signal in relation to the synthesis filter coefficients to produce the perceptually weighted signal. The perceptual weighting filter has a transfer function with fixed denominator of the form: W(z) A (z/ gamma 1) / (1- gamma 2z<-1>) where 0< gamma 2< gamma 1 </=1 and gamma 2 and gamma 1 are weighting control values whereby weighting of the wideband signal in a format region is substantially decoupled from a spectral tilt of this wideband signal.

The signal preemphasis filter has a transfer function of the form: P(z)=1-?z-1 wherein ? is a preemphasis factor having a value located between 0 and 1. The synthesis filter calculator is responsive to the preemphasised signal for producing synthesis filter coefficients. Finally the perceptual weighting filter processes the preemphasised signal in relation to the synthesis filter coefficients to produce the perceptually weighted signal. The perceptual weighting filter has a transfer function with fixed denominator of the form: W(z) A (z/?1) / (1-?2z-1) where 0<?2<?1 ?1 and ?2 and ?1 are weighting control values whereby weighting of the wideband signal in a format region is substantially decoupled from a spectral tilt of this wideband signal.
