Abstract  Abstract

System and method for transmitting information signals using spread spectrum telecommunications techniques. PN sequences are constructed ensuring orthogonality between the users so as to reduce mutual interference, which makes it possible to obtain a higher capacity and a better quality of operation of the links. With orthogonal PN codes, the cross-correlation is zero over a predetermined time interval, which results in an absence of interference between the orthogonal codes, only on condition that the code time slots are aligned in time one with the others. In an exemplary embodiment, signals are transmitted between a cell site (12, 14) and mobile units (16, 18) using direct sequence spread spectrum telecommunications signals. In the cellular to mobile connection, pilot, sync, paging and voice channels are defined. The information transmitted by the cellular to mobile link channels is, in general, coded, interleaved and modulated by bivalent phase displacement (BPSK) with orthogonal coverage of each symbol (BPSK) accompanying the spreading of the modulation by phase displacement quadrivalent (QPSK) of covered symbols. In the mobile-to-cell link are defined access and voice channels. The information transmitted by the mobile-to-cell link channels is, in general, coded, interleaved, with orthogonal signaling and QPSK spreading.
