Abstract  Abstract

The application relates to determining the capability of a node to support the HSDSCH framing protocol type 2 format. In order to do so, a radio network controller (RNC 124) generates (805) a control message including information identifying one or more High Speed Downlink Channel framing protocol types supported by the first device, and transfers (810) the control message to a base station (BS 122). The BS selects (820) a High Speed Downlink Channel framing protocol type in response to receiving the control message, generates (825) a response message including information identifying the selected High Speed Downlink Channel framing protocol type, and transfers (835) the response message to the RNC. The RNC transfers (850) a High Speed Downlink Channel data frame of the selected framing protocol type. Alternatively, the RNC may determine the capability of the BS by looking up information in memory.
