Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus are described that relate to reporting transmission backlog information. The wireless communication device maintains and updates transmission backlog information corresponding to a number of different transmission request groups. Different request groups may correspond to different uplink traffic queues. For request reporting opportunities, the communication device selects a request group from among a number of different transmission request groups with request group changes in the backlog, changes taking into account base station allocation of transmission resources, and request group priority information with respect to pre-reported requests. Choose. The request report is generated by conveying backlog information corresponding to the selected request group, and the generated report is transmitted over the wireless communication link.
