Abstract  Abstract

1. A method for controlling the time characteristics of a user equipment receiver (UE) in a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) configuration, comprising: receiving a plurality of node-specific reference signals (RS) in a UE from a plurality of nodes in a co-ordination set of a CoMP system, the co-ordination set includes at least two nodes; generate a set of node-specific RS time characteristics received by antenna ports for at least two nodes; estimate the average time delay from the set of time characteristics of the received RS, while the average time delay includes a delay of the transmitter (TX), propagation delay, the delay of the receiver (RX) or other delay in the processing; and adjust the received timing of the UE, at least in part, based on the average time delay. The method of claim 1, wherein receiving a plurality of node-specific RSs from a plurality of interacting nodes uses a reference signal antenna port with channel status information (CSI-RS) or a UE specific reference antenna port (RS or UE-specific UE RS) associated with the downlink transmission, wherein the downlink transmission includes data or a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH). 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the node-specific RS includes a reference signal with channel status information (CSI-RS). The method of claim 1, wherein the adjusted receiver timing is the time at which the receiver UE performs fast Fourier transform (FFT) processing for the received signal. The method of claim 1, wherein
