Abstract  Abstract

Method for reducing energy consumption in a wireless subscriber unit (10) having a plurality of amplifiers (90, 97, 99, 100, 101, 103, 107, 112, 116, 117, 130, 141, 150), The method comprising the steps of: identifying each of a plurality of operating states, a subset of amplifiers of the plurality of amplifiers (90, 97, 99, 100, 101, 103, 107, 112, 116, 117, 130 , 141, 150), required to process the signals during each state; determine the operation status of the subscriber unit (10) outside the identified states; decouple or selectively decouple a supply current to the amplifiers and that are not in the subset of amplifiers required for the processing of the signals in said determined state and that are required to process the communication signals in at least another state, said decoupling selective being carried out in successive time frames during time intervals where said decoupled amplifiers are not required for signal processing in said determined state, thereby saving energy by means of said selective decoupling of the supply current to the amplifiers not required for the state determined; and where the subscriber unit (10) communicates using reception and transmission time intervals in repetitive frames and the operating states are partly distinguished by a reception or transmission time interval.
