A user equipment UE, (110), comprising: a module (401) for determining a value for a discontinuous reception parameter, DRX, based, at least in part, on information associated with an application (315) when the application (315) is running on the UE (110), including the information associated with the application (315) a packet traffic model associated with the application, indicating the traffic model if the application (315) generates packets of background traffic, and indicating the information delay requirements for the application (315), including the DRX parameter one of between a duration in activation of a DRX cycle, a DRX cycle length, a DRX idle timer (214) , a radio resource control inactivity timer, RRC, (215); and a transmitter (406) for sending a message to an evolved node B, eNB (102), including the message at least one of the value for the DRX parameter and the information associated with the application (315), characterized in that The module (401) is arranged to cause the UE (110) to enter a DRX mode, using DRX parameters that have values determined by the eNB node (102), where at least one of the values is based, at least in part, in the information associated with the application (315), and the module is arranged to cause the UE (110) to remain in DRX mode and refrain from entering an inactive state of radio resource control , RRC, based on the packet traffic model associated with the application (315), and where a value for an RRC inactivity timer (215) to enter the inactive state of RRC, is greater than a periodicity of maintenance messages on activation, which is associated n with the application (315).
