Abstract  Abstract

In an asynchronous mobile communication system supporting multicast multimedia broadcast service (MBMS), when a user equipment (UE) moves to a region where it can receive form a plurality of Node Bs, soft handover may be performed. However the transmissions from neighbouring Node Bs will in general be time displaced owing to the asynchronous nature of the communication system. The invention provides that if the time difference between the starting points of corresponding received system frames from each Node B is determined and sent to the resource network controller (RNC), the difference can then be communicated to the Node Bs and adjustments in timing made, such that the UE may receive the two data streams simultaneously making soft combination simpler.
