Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A soft handover method for an MBMS(Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service) in a CDMA mobile communication system is provided to soft-combine data received from many base stations in order to lower transmission power of the base stations thereby efficiently using power. CONSTITUTION: An RNC measures a CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) for a UE(501). The UE measures a CPICH SIR value and transmits the measured CPICH SIR value to the RNC(502). The RNC performs a node synchronization procedure(503). The RNC transmits a measurement control RRC message to the UE(504). The UE transmits a time difference between measured SFNs to the RNC(505). The RNC transmits a calculated MBMS offset value to a node B(507). The node B transmits a radio link setup response message to the RNC(508). The RNC informs the UE of a decided MBMS offset value(509). The UE transmits a radio bearer setup complete message to the RNC(510). A synchronization procedure is carried out between the RNC and the node B(511).
