PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the latency and potentially to prevent loss of packet data unit transmission during the serving HS-DSCH cell change procedure.

SOLUTION: A new criterion is introduced for the UE generating status reports of the PDUs as soon as possible following notification of the cell change indicated by the RRC procedure to more efficiently recover source NODE B buffered data. PDU status may be signaled for each radio link controller associated with the HS-DSCH transport channel. Furthermore upon Inter Node B serving HS-DSCH cell change the SRNC may wait for the PDU status report before initiating transmission of new data in a target cell.
