The present invention relates to a method and system for user side equipment to perform a series of operations to reduce delays during service providing HS-DSCH cell change procedures and potentially to prevent loss of packet data unit (PDU) transmissions. A new standard for the UE is introduced to generate the status report of the PDU as soon as possible following the notification 14 of the cell change indicated by the RRC procedure for more efficient recovery of the buffered data at the Node B. The PDU state may be sent 20 for each radio link controller associated with the HS-DSCH transport channel. Furthermore, upon changing the serving HS-DSCH cell at Inter Node B, the RNC may wait for the PDU status report before initiation of transmission 26 of new data in the destination cell.
