Abstract  Abstract

The present invention is directed to efficient recovery of high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) data following handover. The UE 32 performs a series of operations to reduce delays and prevent potential PDU transmission losses during the serving HS-DSCH cell change procedure. A new standard is introduced for the UE 32 to generate a status report of the RLC PDU. The UE 32 generates a status report of the PDU as soon as possible following notification of the HS-DSCH cell change (35-65 or 75) indicated by the RRC procedure, for more effective recovery of the buffered data in the Node B. . PDU status may be sent for each AM RLC instance associated with the HS-DSCH transport channel. Furthermore, upon serving HS-DSCH cell change 35-65 at inter-Node B, the SRNC may wait for the PDU status report before initiating the transmission of new data in the destination cell 65.
