The present invention includes a wireless access network and method for transmitting a multimedia broadcast / multicast service (MBMS) using channel switching. Channel switching takes place between dedicated channels and shared / common channels. The present invention also includes MBMS reception scheduling for use when the wireless transmit / receive unit receives MBMS data from a plurality of transmission sources. The sources transmit MBMS service data in different orders. One embodiment uses in-band segmentation information, and another embodiment uses out-of-band synchronization information.
