Abstract  Abstract

A method for transmitting data of a transmission time interval in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system uses adaptive modulation and coding and has an automatic repeat request mechanism. A transmission time interval has a plurality of transport block assemblies. The transport block assemblies are transmitted with a first modulation and coding scheme specified. Each transport block assembly is received and a determination is made as to whether the transport block assemblies meet a specified quality. When the specified quality is not met, a repeat request is transmitted. The specified modulation and coding scheme changes to a second specified modulation and coding scheme that can support a smaller number of TBSs within the transmission time interval. In response to the repeat request, at least one of the transport block sets is retransmitted. The whole of the retransmitted transport block is received. The retransmitted transport block assembly can be combined with a corresponding previously received transport block assembly. A base station to transmit and a user equipment to receive the data are also disclosed.
