Abstract  Abstract

A method for receiving dynamic continuous broadcast data via HTTP, hypertext transfer protocol, DASH, on a client device (220) through a network, comprising: receiving a multimedia presentation description, MPD , (242) from an HTTP server (218), where the MPD (242) contains uniform resource identifiers, URIs, for a multimedia presentation consisting of a plurality of ordered multimedia segments, and where, for each of the segments ordered multimedia, where the MPD (242) contains uniform resource identifiers, URIs for the same multimedia content at different binary rates, called representations, and includes for each representation a binary rate, characterized in that the MPD (242) also includes a quality measure related to the quality of the experience, QoE, which results when that representation is reproduced, where the quality measure is generated by r a multimedia server (212) that provides the multimedia segments; and downloading the representations selected for reproduction at designated reproduction times from the HTTP server (218) using the URIs in the MPD (242), where the representations received before their designated reproduction times are stored in a memory intermediate, and where the representations are selected to download as a function of the amount of data currently stored in the buffer, the binary rates and the quality measures of the representations, and an estimated performance capacity currently available.
