Abstract  Abstract

Synchronous broadcast / multicast communication. Synchronous broadcasts transmit the same broadcast content from multiple transmitters using the same waveform. Multiple transmitters each apply the same spreading code for broadcast transmission. In a spread spectrum communication system having time division multiplexed forward links, a synchronous broadcast transmission is inserted into a broadcast slot. In one embodiment, an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) waveform is used for synchronous broadcast transmission. An OFDM receiver is then used to process the receive synchronous broadcast transmission. In another embodiment, a pseudo noise (PN) code is used for use by multiple transmitters. An equalizer is then used to evaluate the synchronous broadcast transmission. (Selection) Figure 6
