Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data retransmission method with enhanced error correction capability without the need for a parameterized bit to symbol mapping entity.

SOLUTION: In the data retransmission method after encoded data packets are retransmitted based on an automatic repeat request the data packets are combined with previously received data packets either on a symbol-by-symbol or a bit-to-bit basis. The symbols of the retransmitted data packets are modulated by employing a predetermined signal constellation and each symbol bit has a mean bit reliability which is defined by each bit reliability of the predetermined signal constellation to all the symbols. In this case in this method the bit sequence is modified before the modulation by converting the bit arrangement and/or inverting a logical bit value such that the combined mean bit reliabilities for the respective bits of all transmissions are averaged out.
