Abstract  Abstract

Addressing methods and apparatus that use radiolink resources in an efficient manner are presented. In order to use the radio link resources efficiently, various address types are supported. The number of bits in the address may vary depending on its type. In one embodiment, to support a variety of different address types, which are of different lengths, the address used for communication over the radio link is used to convey the address type field used to convey the address type indicator and, optionally, the address value. It is configured by including the address field to be included in the address. The address field is variable in length and may be null so as not to require delivery of bits in this field for any type of addresses. Four types of addresses that can be supported are: i) access terminal auxiliary address, ii) network auxiliary address, 3) pilot PN based address; And 4) a reserved address.
