Abstract  Abstract

REVIEW CHANNEL PROJECT FOR COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS FOR MULTIPLE INPUTS AND MULTIPLE OUTPUTS. An optimized data communication system provides support for legacy access terminals, such as access terminals operating under the lxEV-DO standard. The system also supports multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) communications with access terminals configured to support MIMO. A number of spatial MIMO signatures is predefined or negotiated. MIMO classification and a spatial signature identifier determined at the MIMO access terminal are sent in Branch-I and Branch-Q of the existing lxEV-DO structure. In one embodiment, spatial 3-bit and 1-bit classification signatures are transmitted through Branch-I as a 4-bit symbol, replacing the data rate control channel (DRC). In another modality, a 4-bit spatial signature is transmitted via Ramification-í, also replacing the DRC channel. A 2-bit rating is transmitted along with a 4-bit DRO channel via the Q-Branch. The 2-bit classification and the DRC channel can be distinct, as they are sent using different orthogonal Walsh code word covers.
