Abstract  Abstract

1. A method for transmitting feedback information from an access terminal (AT) to a base transceiver station (BTS) of a radio communication network configured to communicate with an access terminal using multi-input multi-output (MIMO) technology, the method comprising the steps of where: ! determining MIMO rank information of the first forward link between the BTS and the AT; ! determine information about the spatial characteristics of the MIMO forward link; and! produce simultaneous transmission! (1) MIMO rank information and MIMO spatial characteristics information by the common mode component of the reverse link signal between the BTS and AT, and! (2) data rate control (DRC) information for the forward link through the quadrature component of the reverse link signal. ! 2. The method according to claim 1, in which the radio communication network is configured in such a way that it serves the above-mentioned AT and at least one access terminal, unable to operate in multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO) mode. ! 3. The method according to claim 1, in which the radio communication network is configured in such a way that it serves the above-mentioned AT and at least one access terminal, unable to operate in a mode with multiple inputs and multiple outputs (MIMO), while, AT and said at least one other access terminal, unable to operate in a multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) mode, is in the same sector. ! 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the radio communication network is a radio communication network optimized for data transmission. ! 5. The method according to claim 1, in which the radio communication network
