Abstract  Abstract

Techniques for efficiently transmitting data in a wireless communication system are described. The time frequency resources available for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) may be determined except for the traffic data transmitted in code division multiplexing (CDM) and the time frequency resources used for signaling. The time frequency resources available for OFDM may be partitioned into multiple tiles. Each tile may be defined based on multiple OFDM symbol numerologies, and may have a non-rectangular shape. Each terminal may be assigned at least one tile. The pilot pattern may be selected for each terminal from among multiple pilot patterns that may support different delay spreads, spatial ranks, and the like. Data and pilot may be exchanged with each terminal via time frequency resources in at least one tile assigned to each terminal. OFDM symbols may be processed based on multiple OFDM symbol numerologies for each assigned tile.
