Abstract
A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) and a method for reconfiguring a medium access control (MAC) entity therein. The method includes: detecting at least one of a defined amount of random access channel (RACH) trials or wireless link failures; indicating a random access problem to one or more layers higher than an MAC layer once detecting at least one of a defined amount of random access channel (RACH) trials or wireless link failures; and indicating MAC layer reconfiguring requirements to one or more layers higher than the MAC layer once detecting at least one of a defined amount of random access channel (RACH) trials or wireless link failures.
