Abstract
A method and apparatus for reconfiguring a medium access control (MAC) entity in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU). The method and apparatus includes the WTRU transmitting a MAC reconfiguration request, the WTRU receiving a MAC reconfiguration command including new MAC parameter values and the WTRU reconfiguring a MAC entity based on the new MAC parameter values in the MAC reconfiguration command.

Claim
1. A method for reconfiguring a medium access control (MAC) entity in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising: transmitting a first control element that includes a request for MAC reconfiguration; receiving a second control element that includes an acknowledgment of the request for MAC reconfiguration; and transmitting a third control element that includes a MAC reconfiguration complete message.
2. A method for reconfiguring a medium access control (MAC) entity in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising: transmitting a MAC reconfiguration request; receiving a MAC reconfiguration command that includes new MAC parameter values; and reconfiguring the MAC entity based on the new MAC parameter values in the MAC reconfiguration command.
3. The method as in claim 2 wherein the MAC parameters values include random access channel (RACH) parameter values and the parameter values are applied in response to an initiation of a RACH procedure.
4. The method as in claim 2 wherein the MAC parameter values include hybrid automated retransmission request (HARQ) process parameters.
5. The method as in claim 2 wherein the MAC parameter values include SPS parameter values.
6. The method as in claim 2 wherein the MAC parameter values include discontinuous reception (DRX) parameter values.
7. The method as in claim 2 further comprising the WTRU reading the reconfiguration command and determining modified parameter values.
8. The method as in claim 2 further comprising: adjusting a timer; adjusting a counter; and transmitting a reconfiguration complete message.
9. The method as in claim 2 further comprising; applying new timer values based on a timer reinitialization; and applying new counter parameter values based on a counter reinitialization10. The method as in claim 2 further comprising: receiving a message including a time to apply new parameter values; and applying new parameter values based on the message
11. The method as in claim 2 further comprising applying new parameter values based on a system frame number (SFN)
12. The method as in claim 2 further comprising applying parameter values based on time transmission interval (TTI)
13. A method for resetting a medium access control (MAC) entity in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising: transmitting a MAC reset request; receiving a MAC reset command; and resetting the MAC entity
14. The method as in claim 13 further comprising the WTRU receiving a MAC reset indication from a higher layer entity
15. The method as in claim 13 further comprising the WTRU receiving a MAC reset command for random access channel (RACH) parameters
16. The method as in claim 13 further comprising the WTRU receiving a MAC reset command for discontinuous reception (DRX) parameters
17. The method as in claim 13 further comprising the WTRU receiving a MAC reset command for hybrid automated retransmission request (HARQ) parameters
18. The method as in claim 13 further comprising the WTRU receiving a MAC reset command for SPS parameters
19. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) configured to reconfigure a medium access control (MAC) entity, the WTRU comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit a first control element that includes a request for MAC reconfiguration and a third control element that includes a MAC reconfiguration complete message; a receiver configured to receive a second control element that includes an acknowledgment of the request for MAC reconfiguration; and a processor configured to reconfigure the MAC entity.
20. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) configured to reconfigure a medium access control (MAC) entity, the WTRU comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit a MAC reconfiguration request; a receiver configured to receive a MAC reconfiguration command including new MAC parameter values; and a processor configured to reconfigure the MAC entity based on the new MAC parameter values in the MAC reconfiguration command.
21. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the MAC parameters values include random access channel (RACH) parameter values and the parameter values are applied in response to an initiation of a RACH procedure..

26. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the processor is further configured to adjust a timer and adjust a counter, and the transmitter is further configured to transmit a reconfiguration complete message.
27. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the processor is further configured to apply new timer values based on a timer reinitialization and apply new counter parameter values based on a counter reinitialization.
28. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a message that includes a time to apply new parameter values and the processor is further configured to apply new parameter values based on the message.
29. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the processor is further configured to apply new parameter values based on a system frame number (SFN).
30. The WTRU as in claim 20 wherein the processor is further configured to apply parameter values based on time transmission interval (TTI).
31. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) configured to reset a medium access control (MAC) entity, the WTRU comprising: a transmitter configured to transmit a MAC reset request; a receiver configured to receive a MAC reset command; and a processor configured to reset the MAC entity.
32. The WTRU as in claim 31 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a MAC reset indication from a higher layer entity.
33. The WTRU as in claim 31 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a MAC reset command for RACH parameters.
34. The WTRU as in claim 31 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a MAC reset command for DRX parameters.
35. The WTRU as in claim 31 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a MAC reset command for HARQ parameters.
36. The WTRU as in claim 31 wherein the receiver is further configured to receive a MAC reset command for SPS parameters.
37. An eNodeB (eNB) configured to reconfigure a medium access control (MAC) entity of a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the eNB comprising: a receiver configured to receive a first control element that includes a request for MAC reconfiguration and a third control element that includes a MAC reconfiguration complete message; and a transmitter configured to transmit a second control element that includes an acknowledgment of the request for MAC reconfiguration; and a processor configured to determine the MAC entity reconfiguration parameters.
38. An eNodeB (eNB) configured to reconfigure a medium access control (MAC) entity of a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the eNB comprising: a receiver configured to receive a MAC reconfiguration request; a transmitter configured to transmit a MAC reconfiguration command that includes new MAC parameter values; and a processor configured to determine the new MAC parameter values in the MAC reconfiguration command.
39. An eNodeB (eNB) configured to reconfigure a medium access control (MAC) entity of a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the eNB comprising: a receiver configured to receive a MAC reset request; a transmitter configured to transmit a MAC reset command; and a processor configured to determine a requirement for a MAC entity reset.']
