PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter capable of compatibly satisfying an NTSC broadcasting and an HDTV broadcasting particularly in a satellite broadcasting and drastically reducing unreceivable zones within service areas of ground broadcasting in a receiver for receiving a digital modulated signal.

SOLUTION: The digital modulated signal includes a first data string and a second data string and the first data string includes demodulating information for demodulating a modulated signal corresponding to the second data string. Based upon the demodulating information the second data string is demodulated.
