Methods and apparatus are described in which an unlicensed spectrum is used for Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications. The first method includes broadcasting a beacon signal over an unlicensed spectrum at a predetermined time from the evolved Node B (eNB). The second method includes receiving a beacon signal broadcast on the unlicensed spectrum at a predetermined time from the eNB.
