Abstract  Abstract

Methods and apparatus are described in which an unlicensed spectrum is used for Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications. The first method is to perform a clear channel assessment (CCA) to determine the availability of the unlicensed spectrum and to determine the unlicensed spectrum when a determination is made that the unlicensed spectrum is available. Using a request to send (RTS) signal to a set of user equipment (UE) and, in an unlicensed spectrum, a common clear to send (CTS) signal and an individual CTS signal in response to the RTS signal in the UE Receiving from one or more of the following. The second method is to transmit an RTS signal in the unlicensed spectrum or a V-RTS signal in the license spectrum addressed to the set of UEs, and unload the CTS-to-self signal together with the transmission of the V-RTS signal. Transmitting in the license spectrum. (Selection) Figure 21
