Abstract  Abstract

The data of a transport block assembly must be transmitted in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system uses adaptive modulation and coding and has an automatic physical layer hybrid repeat request mechanism. Segmentation information is provided for potential segmentation of the transport block assembly. The transport block assembly is transmitted with a first specific modulation and coding scheme. The transport block assembly is received and it is determined whether the received transport block assembly meets a specific quality. When the specific quality is not met, a repeat request is transmitted. The first specific modulation and coding set is changed to a second specific modulation and coding set. In response to the request for repetition, the transmission block set is segmented into a plurality of segments supported by the second specific modulation and coding set according to the segmentation information provided. The segments are transmitted and at least two of the segments are transmitted separately. The transmitted segments are received. The segmentation process can be applied more than once for a particular TBS transmission.
