Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable transport block set (TBS) segmentation.

SOLUTION: Transport block set (TBS) data is transmitted in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system uses adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) and has a physical layer hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) mechanism. Information concerning transport block set (TBS) segmentation is provided. The transport block set (TBS) is transmitted using a first specified adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme. The transport block set is received and whether the received transport block set (TBS) meets a specified quality is deetermined. When the specified quality is not met a retransmssion request is transmitted. The first specified modulation and coding (AMC) set is changed to a second specified modulation and coding (AMC) set. In response to the retransmission request the transmit block set is segmented into a plurality of segments supported by the second specified modulation and coding (AMC) set in accordance with the provided segmentation information. The segments are transmitted and at least two of the segments are transmitted separately. The transmitted segments are received. The segmentation process may be applied multiple times for a particular TBS transmission.
