Abstract  Abstract

Receiver which is a user equipment for use in a spread spectrum communication system, the communication system having a base station that transmits a spread spectrum pilot signal and a data signal for reception by the user equipment, having the pilot signal and the associated chip code data signal, and the user equipment having a vector correlation device (504, 508), as means for filtering the received pilot signal using a plurality of delayed versions of the signal chip code pilot that produces de-extended pilot components, the user equipment further comprising: an adaptation algorithm block (506) comprising said means, for weighing the de-extended pilot components and said means for combining the weighted de-extended components as a combined signal and compare the combined signal with an ideal pilot signal value producing an error signal; the filtering means comprising: an adaptation filter (510) for weighting components of the received data signal with the determined weights of the pilot signal; and the receiver further comprising: a de-extender (516) to filter the weighted received data signal using the data signal chip code to retrieve data from the received data signal.
