Abstract  Abstract

Method for receiving a traffic signal in a code division multiple access communication system, the system transmitting a traffic signal over a shared spectrum, the traffic signal having an associated code, the method comprising: receiving (502) the signals on the shared spectrum that include the traffic signal and a reference signal, the reference signal having an associated reference code, where the reference signal includes a pilot signal and the reference code includes a pilot code; sample (512; 514) the signals received at a chip rate to produce first samples and samples that are equally delayed by a half-chip interval with respect to each other; de-expand (504; 508) the respective first and second samples with the reference code and produce respective de-expanded components of the signal received from them; determining a weight for each unpacked component using an adaptive algorithm (506), the adaptive algorithm providing a determination of a refined weight for each unpacked components to minimize interference in the received pilot signal; and adaptively filter (510) the received signals using the associated code of the traffic signal and the refined weights to produce the traffic signal data.
