A method and apparatus for requesting a ChannelMeasurement Report in a wireless communication system is described. An 8-bit MessageID field set to “0x07”, a 12-bit PilotPN field set to the PilotPN of the sector requesting the measurement report, a 2-bit CarrierID field set to the carrier for which the measurement is requested, 40-bit StartPHYFrame set to the frame number of the PHYFrame from which the access terminal is requested to start measurement, 3-bit NumChannels field set to the number of channels to be measured, one measurement message to be included in the report message A ChannelMeasurementReportRequest message including an 8-bit MeasurementsPerMessage field that determines the number, an 8-bit NumMeasurementsRequested field that determines the total number of measurements to be performed by the access terminal, and a 4-bit Reserved field is generated and transmitted via the communication link.
