Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for performing tuneaways in a wireless communication system are described. A TuneAwayScheduleN attribute comprising a 8 Length field, an 8 bit AttributeID field, a 34 bit StartSuperframeNumber field, a 16 bit StartSuperFrameOffset field, a 24 bit TuneAwayDuration field, a 24 bit TuneAwayPeriodicity field and a 6 bit Reserved field, wherein the Length field indicates the length of the TuneAwayScheduleN attribute in octets, the AttributeID field is set to 0*0(N+2) and N takes values from 0 through NCSPTuneAwayMax-1, the StartSuperframeNumber field indicates the first tuneaway that occurred in this superframe, the StartSuperFrameOffset field indicates that the first TuneAway begins StartSuperFrameOffset time after the beginning of superframe number StartSuperFrameNumber, the TuneAwayDuration field determines the duration of the TuneAway in units of 1 microsecond, the TuneAwayPeriodicity field determines the time between the start of the successive TuneAways in units of microsecond and the Reserved field will be set to all zeros is generated and tuneaways are performed according to the TuneAwayScheduleN attribute.
