Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combined system for telephone service/subscriber locating service.

SOLUTION: Data packets carrying telephone traffic are transmitted from different antennae and at different time points. A subscriber device receives the same data packet at different time points via different antennae to reduce a fading influence by using the best data packet or a combination of these packet data. A forwarding station forms replications of the data packets at spatially separate antenna positions. Besides the forwarding station modulates a CDMA series by using a TDMA signal which forms a link between a mobile station subscriber and the forwarding station. Each of data packets received by the forwarding station is transmitted to the mobile station subscriber via the CDMA link at different time points. Particularly a subscriber station calculates each distance from the subscriber station to transmitted antennae by using absolute reaching times and relative reaching times of the replicated data packets. Since these transmitted antennae are at known fixed positions thus permitting a position of a receiver to be figured out.
