Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system utilizing time and space diversity.

SOLUTION: A packet that includes synchronization information is transmitted at different times from different antennas. A mobile station receives the packet from different antennas at different times and uses the best packet or a combination of these packets to reduce an effect of fading. In a base station data packet repetition is performed at spatially diverse antenna locations. The base station further modulates a code division multiple access (CDMA) system using a TDMA signal. Each packet is thus transmitted at different times to a mobile station subscriber through a CDMA link. In one embodiment each transmitter station is provided with three space diversity antennas. In a second embodiment three transfer stations are employed each having one spatially diverse antenna.
