Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system utilizing time and space diversity.

SOLUTION: A packet containing synchronism information is transmitted from different antennas at different times. A mobile station receives packets from the different antennas at different times and a best packet or a combination of these packets is used to reduce an effect of fading. In a base station data packet repetition is performed at a spatially diverse antenna position. Furthermore a code division multiple access (CDMA) system is modulated using a TDMA signal. Therefore the packets are transmitted to a mobile station subscriber on a CDMA link at different times. In one embodiment each transmission station includes three space diversity antennas. In a second embodiment three transfer stations each with one spatially diverse antenna are used.
