Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system which utilizes time/space diversity.

SOLUTION: Packets containing synchronous information are transmitted from different antennas at different points of time. A mobile station receives packets from different antennas at different points of time and uses a best packet or a combination of these packets to reduce effects of fading. At a base station a data packet repetition is formed at a spatially different antenna position. Furthermore a TDMA signal is used to modulate a code division multiple access (CDMA) sequence. Therefore respective packets are transmitted to a mobile station subscriber via a CDMA link at different points of time. In one embodiment each transmission station has three space diversity antennas. In a second embodiment three transfer stations each of which has one spatially separate antenna are used.
