Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for handling timers in a wireless communication system in order to prevent an RLC AM entity from experiencing deadlock or reduction in (QoS) quality of services.

SOLUTION: The method for handling the timers in the wireless communication system includes the steps of: starting a Timer_Poll_Periodic timer for the Radio Link RLC AM entity; performing a reset procedure for the RLC AM entity; and restarting the Timer_Poll_Periodic timer in response to the Timer_Poll_Periodic timer expiring prior to completion of the reset procedure. The method also includes the step of not stopping the Timer_Poll_Periodic timer respectively in response to the reset procedure maintaining the value of the timer and maintaining the operation of the timer.
