Abstract  Abstract

In one embodiment, the highband burst suppressor includes a first burst detector implemented to detect bursts of a lowband speech signal, and a second burst detector implemented to detect bursts of a corresponding highband speech signal. The low band and high band voice signals are different (possibly overlapping) frequency regions of the wideband voice signal. The highband burst suppressor also includes an attenuation control signal calculator that is implemented to calculate the attenuation control signal according to the difference between the outputs of the first and second burst detectors. The gain control element is implemented to apply this attenuation control signal to the high band speech signal. In one embodiment, the attenuation control signal indicates attenuation when a burst is found in the highband speech signal but no burst is present in the corresponding time domain of the lowband speech signal.
