Abstract  Abstract

FIELD: physics; communications. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to voice communication over a public switched telephone network. One version of the method of processing signals involves encoding the low-frequency part of a voice signal into at least an encoded narrowband excitation signal and several parametres for narrowband filtering; and generation of a highband excitation signal based on the narrowband excitation signal. The narrowband excitation signal is based on the encoded narrowband excitation signal. The method also involves encoding the high-frequency part of a voice signal into at least several highband filtering parametres according to at least the highband excitation signal. The encoded narrowband excitation signal includes a time warping and the method includes applying a time shift to the high-frequency part based on information related to the time warping. ^ EFFECT: effective expansion of broadband encoding without significantly reducing the number of users. ^ 23 cl 44 dwg
